Welcome to Explore Booksellers

When a “for sale” sign appeared in its front yard last February, we shared the anxiety expressed not only by the community but thousands of Aspen visitors who prize Explore Booksellers and Bistro as a special place. We purchased it so it would remain that special place.

Our first season as Explore’s new owners realized that promise. Throughout the summer, Explore was bristling with literary energy and diverse ideas from prominent authors. In fact, we had more new book events and in-person author discussions than ever before.

The Explore Bistro also remained rooted in its vegetarian mission but was even better with a commitment to local, sustainably-grown organic foods and wonderful new menu items in addition to our traditional favorites.

Our fall and winter seasons at Explore Booksellers and Bistro promise to be just as exciting. And with the ease of ordering books right here on our new website… wherever you are in the world, it’s good to Explore.

Author Signed Books... Extra Special
One of the unique aspects of being a bookstore in Aspen is the number of authors from around the world who visit the area and make it a point to come to Explore. As a result, we have a number of "signed" books which always makes them extra special as a gift or as an addition to your own library. Hard to find books... no problem.
Turkish poetry.... in Turkish; Harry Potter in Chinese; a 1969 edition of Fantastic Mr. Fox; limited edition books and out-of-print classic Aspen books like Bonnie's at 1:00 or Gwyn's High Alpine Cookbook -- just a few of the requests we've filled recently. If you want a hard-to-find book, ask us.
